Acclaimed US filmmaker Kelly Reichardt has been named guest of honour at the upcoming 57th edition of documentary festival Visions du Reel (VdR), set to take place in Nyon, Switzerland from April 17-26.
Reichardt will take part in a masterclass session at the festival, which will also host a retrospective of her work. VdR will also screen her latest feature, The Mastermind, which premiered in Competition at Cannes.
VdR artistic director Emilie Bujès said: “Film after film, Kelly Reichardt sketches fragments of history and lives in remarkably refined and elegant narratives which, through their rejection of the spectacular and their sensitive attention to detail, reveal a fascinating relationship with reality.”
Over a 30-year career, Reichardt has established herself as a leading figure of US independent filmmaking with nine features to date including Meek’s Cutoff, First Cow and Certain Women. Often setting her films in Oregon, the writer-director is known for focussing on those left behind by the American dream. Reichardt received the Carrosse d’Or at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight in 2022
Previous guests of honour at VdR include Werner Herzog, Claire Denis, Lucrecia Martel, Jia Zhang-Ke, Marco Bellocchio, Claire Simon and Emmanuel Carrère.
VdR will reveal its full programme on March 25.
