Lisa Bruhlmann, the Swiss director of Blue My Mind and two episodes of Killing Eve, will direct and star in her second feature Sisters, which will shoot next year.

Written by Bruhlmann and based on a story from her own childhood, Sisters follows a 14-year-old girl on vacation with her mother, her mother’s new boyfriend and his daughter in 1996. While the girls find a sister in each other, the adults’ relationship spirals out of control.

The film is scheduled to shoot in September and October 2023, produced by Reto Schaerli for Switzerland’s Zodiac Pictures.

Bruhlmann will play the mother, with casting underway for the other roles. Financing has also begun, with discussions at the Zurich Film Summit this past weekend.

Filmcoopi has boarded Swiss distribution rights on the film; a sales company is not yet attached.

Bruhlmann’s debut feature Blue My Mind premiered in the New Directors section of San Sebastian Film Festival in 2017. It won two prizes at Zurich Film Festival that year, and went on to eight nominations and three awards at the 2018 Swiss Film Prize awards – best film, best screenplay for Bruhlmann and best actress for Luna Wedler.

For television, Bruhlmann has directed for US shows including The Girl Before, Castle Rock and Killing Eve, receiving a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2019 for her work on the latter. She also has acting credits, including in Dominic Locher’s films Tempo Girl and Goliath.
