EXCLUSIVE: South Korea’s CJ 4DPlex has secured sales rights to Heo Jung’s upcoming occult mystery feature The Uninvited and is introducing buyers to the project at TIFF: The Market.
The film has a starry cast that is led by Byun Yo-han of 2022 blockbuster Hansan: Rising Dragon, Ahn Jae-hong from box office phenomenon The King’s Warden, and Ha Yoon-kyong of acclaimed drama series Undercover Miss Kong and Busan award-winner Concerning My Daughter.

The story follows newlyweds Woo-jin (Ahn) and Hee-yeon (Ha), who move into a new home on Son-eomneun Nal – a traditional Korean moving day believed to be safe from evil spirits – at the insistence of Hee-yeon’s superstitious mother.
Struggling with grief after a devastating miscarriage and mounting tension with his mother-in-law, Woo-jin hopes for a fresh start. But their lives begin to unravel when a mysterious shaman, Tae-ju (Byun), warns that Hee-yeon is possessed by an evil spirit. As her increasingly disturbing behaviour defies explanation, Woo-jin is pulled into a dangerous ritual while questioning the shaman’s true intentions.
The film is produced by A-Lister Studio and B.A. Entertainment, the banner behind blockbuster franchise The Roundup and The King’s Warden, now South Korea’s highest-grossing film ever at the local box office.
Locally titled Son-eomneun Nal, the film is in post-production ahead of a planned release later this year.
Director Heo is known for thriller Hide And Seek, which ranked among the top 10 titles at the Korean box office in 2013, and horror The Mimic, released in 2017.
CJ 4DPlex, a division of the CJ Group, moved into sales of narrative features earlier this year having previously focused on concert films and music documentaries.
