‘App The Horror’

EXCLUSIVE: Hong Kong’s Autumn Sun has secured sales across Asia for South Korean anthology film App The Horror, starring Squid Game’s Anupam Tripathi.

The horror omnibus has been sold to Malaysia and Vietnam (DH24 Vision), Cambodia (Westec) and Taiwan (Moviecloud), with theatrical releases planned for April and May. Advanced talks are underway for Japan, the Philippines, Russia/CIS, Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia, according to Elliot Tong, head of sales and acquisitions at Autumn Sun.

The film is directed by six rising Korean filmmakers and weaves interconnected tales based around a mysterious phone app, which unleashes vengeful spirits tied to social media, loneliness and teenage life. The cast also includes Lim Ye-eun (You And Everything Else).

Producer is Hyung Seul-woo, writer/director of 2023 romance Someone You Loved, for Heart People Pictures.

The film was released in South Korea on February 18 and has taken nearly $650,000 from 100,000 admissions to date.

Korean firm Anthology21 handles sales outside of Asia and Russia.

Autumn Sun’s Filmart slate also includes Her Second Act, the debut feature of Malaysian writer/director Joey Lee Choi Kin. The bittersweet drama comedy about the menopause stars Malaysian actors Jojo Goh and Douglas Lim. Producers are Joey Lee and Lin Lee, and the film is presented by Passionate World.

Autumn Sun will be showing fresh footage from the upcoming feature at the market in Hong Kong.
