Lakeshore International has added Hot Tub Time Machine starring John Cusack to its Cannes sales slate.

The comedy is in production and will be released in North America through MGM on February 26, 2010.

Cusack stars alongside Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry, Clark Duke and Lizzy Caplan and Steve Pink is directing.

The story revolves around three friends approaching early middle age who are frustrated with their lives and head off to their favourite ski lodge in search of solace for the weekend.

Once there the men climb into a hot tub that has hosted many a party in their earlier lives, only to be transported back to the 1980s where they get the chance to rectify old mistakes.

“This is a great addition for us in Cannes,” Lakeshore’s president of worldwide marketing and distribution David Dinerstein said, noting the film’s enhanced appeal due to its production status and studio backing.

Lakeshore and MGM are partnering on the musical remake Fame, which MGM will release in autumn.
