‘Furies’

EXCLUSIVE: France’s Le Pacte has boarded French distribution and international sales rights to Rami Kodeih’s debut feature Furies ahead of its world premiere in the Spotlight section of this year’s Venice Film Festival.

Furies is set during Lebanon’s real-life economic collapse, when banks froze millions of depositors out of their life savings. The film follows a determined single mother and her wild-hearted sister whose bank won’t let them access their funds to pay for a life-saving surgery, so they recruit a truck driver and an ex-militia fighter for a daring, all-night bank heist.

Furies is produced by Rodrigo Teixeira of Brazil’s RT Features, fresh off Walter Salles’ Academy Award-winning I’m Still Here, while George Clooney and Grant Heslov are executive producers through their Smokehouse Pictures. CAA Media Finance is handling US sales.

Maria Nakouzi, Rym Mroue, Hasan Akil and Issam Bou Khaled lead the cast. Writer-director Kodeih makes his feature debut following several shorts that have screened at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, BFI London Film Festival and Clermont-Ferrand.

In addition to Furies, Le Pacte heads to Venice with Paolo Strippoli’s The Spiral in competition, and will be shopping Yan Lanouette Turgeon’s TIFF closing night film Villeneuve: The Rise Of A Legend, about Canadian racing legend Gilles Villeneuve.
