EXCLUSIVE: LevelK has set new deals on Mattias J. Skoglund’s Swedish horror The Home.
The film has sold to the US (Uncorked Entertainment), Latin America and Spain (Cinemaran) and Poland (Moon Shot Company).
The Home is written by Skoglund and Mats Strandberg, and produced by Siri Hjorton Wagner for [sic] Film, co-produced by Elina Litvinova for Three Brothers and Heather Millard for Compass Films.
It follows Joel, who reluctantly returns to his childhood home to care for his mother Monika after she suffers a severe stroke and is clinically dead for several minutes. When she recovers, Monika seems unrecognizable—and Joel becomes convinced that something followed her back from the other side.
The film premiered in the Midnighter section at SXSW in March, and has since played 10 festivals including Sitges, and winning the Melies d’argent jury award at Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Films.
It was made in co-production with SVT and Gotlands Filmfond with support from the Swedish Film Institute, Estonian Film Institute, Icelandic Film Centre, Nordisk Film og TV Fond, Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the Icelandic Ministry of Culture and Business Affairs – Film & TV Reimbursement; and in association with NonStop Entertainment, Inland Film and YLE.
NonStop Entertainment released the film on 100 screens in Sweden on October 29.
”We’ve been overwhelmed by the response to The Home - from the enthusiastic audience reactions at festivals like SXSW, Neuchatel and Sitges, to the strong critical reception in Sweden,” said Wagner. ”It’s rare for a genre film to reach so broadly at home, and we’re thrilled to see it now travel across new territories.”
LevelK will be continuing sales at this week’s American Film Market (November 11-16).
