EXCLUSIVE: TrustNordisk has boarded international sales rights on Lionheart, the debut feature of Danish war reporter Nagieb Khaja.

Currently in post-production, the film tells the story of a man who has spent most of his life in a gang. As the brutal environment takes its toll on him, he dreams of starting over, but discovers that finding his footing in a new reality won’t be easy.

The film stars The Girl With The Needle actor and 2025 European Film Promotion Shooting Star Besir Zeciri, alongside Mohamed Djeziri.

It is written by Jesper Fink and Khaja, and produced by Signe Leick Jensen and Morten Kaufmann for Denmark’s Toolbox Film, in coproduction with Zik Zak Filmworks.

The film is backed by the Danish Film Institute, DR, Creative Europe and the Nordic Film & TV Fund. Scanbox Entertainment will release the title in the Nordics. TrustNordisk will give the film its market debut at Cannes in May.

Danish journalist Khaja has reported from the frontline in war zones, including in Afghanistan, Syria and Palestine. A correspondent for the BBC, Al Jazeera and Vice, he has twice been nominated for the Cavling Prize, a Danish journalism award.

“It’s a debut that feels both urgent and notably confident in its expression, with a sharp perspective and emotional clarity,” said Susan Wendt, TrustNordisk managing director.
