Lionsgate will release The Housemaid’s Secret starring Sydney Sweeney and Kirsten Dunst on December 17, 2027.

It is understood Lionsgate International will commence pre-sales in Cannes on the sequel to its independent smash that earned close to $400m at the worldwide box office.

Dunst was recently announced as joining the cast alongside the returning Sweeney and Michele Morrone.

Paul Feig returns to direct the project and will once again produce through his Pretty Dangerous Pictures with business partner Laura Fischer, as well as Hidden Pictures’ producer Todd Lieberman, and Sweeney through her Fifty-Fifty Films.

The Housemaid’s Secret centres on Millie (Sweeney) who takes a job keeping house for a woman whom she is never allowed to see, only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own.

Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book by Freida McFadden, will also return to adapt the screenplay. McFadden has written The HousemaidThe Housemaid’s SecretThe Housemaid Is Watching, and short story The Housemaid’s Wedding.

Carly Elter, who oversaw The Housemaid for Hidden Pictures, is returning as executive producer alongside Alex Young of Hidden Pictures. Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio are overseeing the sequel for Lionsgate. 

The Housemaid opened on December 19 2025 in North America and a handful of other territories and mostly rolled out internationally later that month and in January and February 2026. It has earned $125m in North America and $271m internationally for a $397m global tally.
