Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard have joined the programme of Croatian film event Slano Film Days, which runs from June 16-20 this year.

Gyllenhaal and Sarsgaard will each participate in a Film Talks session about their careers.

Cinematographer Michael Seresin will host the session with Gyllenhaal, with Mexican filmmaker Michel Franco hosting the one with Sarsgaard. Franco directed Sarsgaard in 2023’s Memory, for which the actor won the Volpi Cup for best actor at Venice Film Festival.

Slano Film Days will also screen The Bride!, Gyllenhaal’s second feature as director, which has Sarsgaard among its cast and which was released worldwide by Warner Bros in March this year.

Gyllenhaal and Sarsgaard join returning Slano attendees including Pawel Pawlikowski, who will screen his new film Fatherland. Pawlikowski won the best director prize at Cannes last month for the film, which also topped Screen’s Cannes jury grid.

The Polish director will also participate in a Film Talks session alongside actress Joanna Kulig, who led his 2018 feature Cold War and who appears in Fatherland.

Ruben Ostlund will return to the event to present a selection of films including Axel Danielson and Maximilien Van Aertryck’s feature documentary Fantastic Machine, produced by Ostlund’s Plattform Produktion. Ostlund will also participate in a Film Talks session moderated by Ognjen Glavonic, in which the Swedish filmmaker will discuss his upcoming feature The Entertainment System Is Down, which is currently in post-production.

Slano Film Days looks to connect emerging filmmakers from the Balkan region with established international professionals, through a programme of talks and screenings. The 14 participants selected for this year’s third edition include Fiume o morte! director Igoc Bezinovic.
