EXCLUSIVE: Marcia Gay Harden and Mamoudou Athie will star in the elevated thriller Hystoria, which Prestige International Pictures will introduce to buyers at next week’s AFM.

Batan Silva directs from an original screenplay by Jonathan Benecke and P.T. Hylton about a retirement party that takes a sinister turn when three former students discover their respected history teacher is secretly plotting to violently reshape the future.

Jamie Gray Hyder and newcomer Hudson Harden Scheel round out the key cast. Benecke and Hylton are producing through First Light Films alongside Luis Guerrero and Chris Lemos for Vital Pictures. Neil Walton, Marc Ellman, John Williams, Doug Bouton, Trey Martin and Mimi Williams serve as executive producers.

Harden’s many credits include Pollock and Mystic River, for which she won and was nominated for the supporting actress Oscar, respectively. Athie’s credits include The Drama and Jurassic World: Dominion. Silva has directed on series like The Boys, Narcos, and The Flight Attendant, and features After Darkness, and La Nave.

The project is in post. Hylton said, “Batan and the cast brought this pressure-cooker thriller to life in a way that exceeded our lofty expectations.” Prestige president Carlos Rincon added, “Marcia delivers one of her finest and most provocative performances, one that will stay with audiences long after the credits roll.”

Guerrero and Lemos of Vital Pictures are partners at sister company Prestige International Pictures. Vital functions as Prestige’s in-house production arm.
