Marine Atlan’s Critics’ Week winner La Gradiva, Mike Leigh’s Tender Loving Care, and Paweł Pawlikowski’s Cannes best director joint winner Fatherland are among Main Slate selections in the 64th New York Film Festival (September 25-October 12).
The 32-strong lineup including three world, seven North American, and 13 US premieres brings the first public screening of Mani Haghighi’s documentary about the Iranian painter Nasser Bakhshi, I Deserve A Lover Whose Every Rise Sets Fiery Dooms Raging Across The Skies.
Haghighi joins previously-announced world premieres for Tony Gilroy’s Centrepiece selection Behemoth! and Ava DuVernay’s closing night film 14th.
There are North American premieres for Isabelle Stever’s upcoming Locarno world premiere I Rarely Wake Up Dreaming and two from prolific South Korean filmmaker Hong Sangsoo: the upcoming Locarno world premiere Nowhere To Lay My Eyes and his Berlinale Panorama entry The Day She Returns.
US premieres include several from Cannes: Pedro Almodóvar’s Competition entry Bitter Christmas and Sandra Wollner’s Un Certain Regard winner Everytime, among others. Pawlikowski’s joint Cannes best director winner Fatherland is one of several titles receiving their New York premiere.
As previously announced, the North American premiere of James Gray’s Cannes competition selection Paper Tiger will open the festival.
