EXCLUSIVE: UK actor Martin Freeman is to star in US filmmaker Dakota Gorman’s thriller Speak Up, with UK sales agent Altitude introducing the project to buyers in Toronto.
After a brutal car accident, a young woman wakes up in a small-town emergency room where a brain injury has rendered her unable to speak.
Isolated and without a voice, she must save herself from the very man who tried to kill her: her doctor. Altitude is positioning the project in the vein of Phone Booth, Panic Room and Watcher.
Josh Berman and Rioghnach NÍ Ghrioghair have co-written the script.
Freeman, whose credits span the Black Panther films and Andrew Haigh’s Toronto 2026 premiere A Long Winter, joins Vikings star Clive Standen and Anna Rust alongside previously announced Lilly Krug, who plays the young woman at the centre of the story, and Bollywood star Radhika Apte.
It is set to shoot in the UK in November.
The thriller is produced by Alex Lane and Oleg Shardin for Dublin-based Puma In A Tank and London-based Daniel-Konrad Cooper. J. Todd Harris and Sandy R. Climan will executive produce.
