EXCLUSIVE: Maxine Peake and Gemma Jones are to star in Sheree Folkson’s uplifting drama The Bright Side Running Club, with Altitude launching sales at Cannes.

The script is written by Josie Lloyd and adapted from her novel, The Cancer Ladies’ Running Club.

A fun-loving woman expertly juggling the demands of her hectic family life, busy social schedule and successful business gets diagnosed with breast cancer. As her life starts to unravel, she unexpectedly finds solace in a running club for people going through treatment.

Harriet Rees, whose credits include Chalet Girl, produces for her UK Kaleidoscope Films. Norfolk Screen, the county’s film office, in partnership with Norfolk County Council and North Norfolk District council, are offering a regional incentive to support the production to film in Norfolk. The first offering of its kind in the region will be a combination of investment funding and in-kind support. More details on the new incentive will be unveiled soon.

Cameras are due to roll in Cromer, Norfolk, UK, later in the year. Executive producer is Christelle Conan with co-producer Liza Carmel. 

Peake’s recent credits include Bafta-winning I Swear, while Jones has starred in the Bridget Jones franchise. 

UK filmmaker Folkson has previously directed episodes of Bridgerton. Lloyd’s novels include Come Together, adapted for screen by Working Title in 2002.
