Bafta trustee Medwyn Jones is leaving Harbottle & Lewis after more than 20 years to join media law firm Wiggin’s film and TV group.

Jones will join Wiggin as a partner in January and was described by the firm’s chief executive, John Banister, as one of the UK’s foremost media lawyers.

“His relationships with many of the UK’s leading TV production companies will give Wiggin an opportunity to extend its reach into this fast-growing media sector,” Banister said.

Jones has acted for many of the UK’s leading drama production companies, including Hartswood Films, Neal Street Productions and Endor Productions, and his specialisms also include finance, distribution, sponsorship and broadcast, plus exploitation of secondary and ancillary rights.

He is also chair of BAFTA’s commercial committee.

Wiggin claims to be the only law firm in the UK and Europe to represent all six of the US studios in relation to their UK and European productions.
