EXCLUSIVE: Reinvent Yellow has acquired international sales rights to Jo Southwell’s horror The Catch, which starts production this spring-summer.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Ben Miles star in the film, in which a disgraced celebrity chef races his rival to hunt for the rarest catch of all – a mermaid. In the depths of Cornwall he risks murder, deceit and his own daughter for the most exclusive dish in the world.
The Catch is produced by Sara Gibbings for the UK’s Mermaid Pictures, with support from Reunion Pacific (Canada) and Pinewood Studios. Emily Barr and Craig Barr-Green wrote the screenplay.
It is UK filmmaker Southwell’s feature debut, following shorts including 2023’s Echo, and directing for UK TV series including Call The Midwife.
Reinvent Yellow deputy CEO Rikke Ennis described the project as “a true unicorn. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us.”
”With an amazing cast to bring this truly unique script to life and working with incredibly talented key creatives including Igor Studios, I amthrilled to be directing The Catch written by Emily Barr and Craig Barr-Green,” said Southwell. ”Mermaid Pictures are delighted to team up with Reinvent Yellow and look forward to next steps.”
