EXCLUSIVE: Miercoles Entertainment Studios co-founder Paul Presburger is at the AFM looking to acquire completed Spanish-language film and TV for the US hispanic market and has unveiled a development slate of remakes.

The former CEO of Pantelion Films and the Spanish-language streamer Pantaya has optioned rights to several properties in association with Globalgate, the Lionsgate-backed consortium of international distribution partners that he co-founded some years ago.

Miercoles is the Spanish-language partner of Globalgate, which Presburger describes as a “trove of great IP from around the world”. The goal is for Miercoles to ultimately control US distribution rights on all the projects it gets involved with.

Presburger is setting up a hybrid Spanish and English adaptation of the Dutch drama series Swanenburg alongside Argentina, 1985 producer Axel Kuschvatzky of Infinity Hill and Chollowood’s Kate del Castillo, the lead in La Reina del Sur who is being eyed for a potential starring role.

Bellaza is based on the 2022 German comedy drama Wunderschon and will shoot in Colombia in the first quarter of 2026 as a co-production with Rodrigo Trujillo of Mexican producer Bh5. Presburger is also eyeing a Mexico shoot on No Manches Frida 3, a sequel to the comedy franchise he set up at Pantelion that is based on the German Fack Ju Goethe films.

Independently of Globalgate, Miercoles has obtained the life rights to the Mexican singer and composer Chalino Sanchez from his widow and is co-producing with Pacha Films, Explora Films, and former Pantelion and Pantaya development executive Aaron Ashford.

Premium film and television label Miercoles Select recently announced a partnership with Hulu that will comprise acquisitions and Latin American co-productions. Initial titles include No Me Sigas, a horror film from Blumhouse Productions, and the hit Mexican romantic comedy drama Soy Tu Fan.

“AFM is a perfect opportunity to source finished product for Miercoles Select and to meet with Globalgate’s partners and other international relationships to source great IP for our slate,” Presburger said.
