TORONTO: Participant Media and DreamWorks are reuniting on The Hundred-Foot Journey following their collaborations on Toronto opener The Fifth Estate, Lincoln and The Help.

Helen Mirren and rising star Manish Dayal will star and Lasse Hallstrom will direct from Locke director Steven Knight’s adapted screenplay from the book by Richard Morais.

Production is scheduled to commence next week in France and India. Disney will release in the US on Aug 8, 2014, and handle select territories while Mister Smith takes charge of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. DreamWorks co-owner Reliance will distribute in India.

Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake are producing with Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King serving as executive producers.

The Hundred-Foot Journey centres on a culinary battle that ensues when an Indian family moves to southern France and opens a restaurant across the street from a Michelin-starred French establishment.

“This will be our sixth collaboration with our good friends at DreamWorks, and what a dream project this is, with an amazing line-up of talent and a story that’s totally in the Participant wheelhouse,” said Participant CEO Jim Berk.

DreamWorks Partner Stacey Snider said, “We are delighted that we can continue our successful collaboration with Participant on another DreamWorks film.”

Participant COO Jeff Ivers negotiated the deal with DreamWorks evp of business affairs Chris Floyd. Participant evp of production King will supervise the production alongside DreamWorks president of production Holly Bario.
