Apple TV head of international development Morgan Wandell is leaving the company to launch his own production company.

Kismet, Wandell’s new Los Angeles-based operation, will focus on scripted series for the international market. Details about the new venture and its slate have not yet been revealed.

Wandell moved from Amazon Studios to Apple TV in 2017 and has overseen Apple projects including Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters, Tehran, Masters Of The Air and Disclaimer

Going forward, Apple TV head of programming Matt Cherniss will take over responsibility for series overseen by Wandell and UK-based European creative director Jay Hunt will expand her remit to include international and local-language original projects.

In a statement, Wandell said: “Helping to build Apple TV’s international slate has been the privilege of my career. I’m deeply grateful to [Apple co-heads of worldwide video] Jamie [Erlicht], Zack [Van Amburg], and all my colleagues at Apple, and to the extraordinary creators we’ve partnered with around the world. It was a hard personal decision to make this leap from a company as terrific as Apple, but I have always wanted to build a company of my own. The opportunity to serve as an entrepreneur and producer in the growing white space for premium series for the global marketplace is one I couldn’t pass up and one that audiences are embracing.”

News of Wandell’s departure and new venture was first reported by Deadline.
