Our Words Collide

Motion Picture Exchange (MPX) has acquired worldwide sales rights to the documentary Our Words Collide featuring Rosario Dawson as executive producer for EFM.

Jordan W. Barrow and Matt Edwards co-directed the film about five spoken word teen poets as they navigate their final year at high school and deal with issues ranging from identity to mental health issues.

Our Words Collide highlights the poets of the Get Lit programme, a non-profit organisation in Los Angeles which uses the art form to educate and empower young people.

The film premiered at Santa Barbara International Film Festival where it went on to become the winner of the ADL Stand Up Award and has also been an official selection of Cinequest, DocLands and the Santa Fe International Film Festival, among others.

“MPX maintains a strong passion for documentary content with powerful messaging and stories worth telling,” said Ryan Bury, SVP of MPX. “The relatable journeys and challenges these young poets have lived and dealt with, displayed by way of their powerful words within this film, truly prove they are voices that are worthy of being heard. We are honoured to be partnering with Jordan, Matt and Rosario to help bring this message to audiences around the world.”

The directors said, “We’re so honoured to have had the opportunity to collaborate with this group of incredibly talented young poets. Their words and experiences have not only been a source of inspiration and creativity during the filmmaking process, but also serve as a powerful message for audiences. Through this film, we aim to provide not only an insightful and educational experience, but also an empowering one.”

Dawson said, “From the first time I watched the film Our Words Collide, I knew I wanted to be a part of this project. It was so powerful seeing the journey unfold for these five exceptional poets knowing the challenges that so many young people are facing today with mental health, identity and expression, and finding your place in the world.

“I felt a sense of excitement knowing that the next generation have such a powerful voice and are ready to share it. This film reminds us of the power of words, poetry and storytelling. I can’t wait for you to be inspired by these young poets as they share their stories in this compelling documentary.”
