‘My Killer Crush’

EXCLUSIVE: Barunson E&A is set to launch international sales on quirky coming-of-age romance My Killer Crush at the upcoming Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM, October 10-13) in Busan.

The upcoming Korean feature is led by rising star Kim Jae-won, who has earned major attention this year for his performance in Yumi’s Cells season three, and Chung Su-bin, whose credits include Berlinale 2024 award-winner It’s Okay. A first look at the two in the film can be seen above.

Chung plays Do-young, a high school senior who wants to die while Kim plays Do-ha, a transfer student rumoured to be a killer. She approaches him with a wild proposal – to help her plan the perfect accidental death – and together they form a secret pact. But as the two share chaos, laughter and secrets, an unexpected love develops.

The cast also includes Park Ho-san from Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy and TV series My Mister as Do-young’s father.

It marks the second feature of director Kim Jin-hwa, whose debut Missing Yoon premiered at Jeonju International Film Festival in 2022. Kim also wrote the script with Hong Ji-su and Yoon Ki-ho.

Principal photography has wrapped and the film is in post-production ahead of a planned release in 2027 through Acemaker Movieworks.

The film is produced by Idioplan, whose credits include New Trial, Innocence and Bogota: City Of The Lost, in co-production with Andmarq Studio and Initium Corporation.

Seoul-based Barunson E&A, known for producing Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar-winner Parasite, heads into the ACFM with a slate of upcoming titles that includes Indonesian features Descendants Of The Sun Part. 1, Satan’s Slaves: Origin by Joko Anwar and zombie horror Zona Merah: Dead City.

From Korea, it has occult mystery Stoneborn from the creators of horror blockbuster Exhuma while horror thriller Inherit is from Thai hitmaker Banjong Pisanthanakun, fresh from its premiere at Toronto.

The 21st ACFM is set to run October 10-13 and is the industry platform of Busan International Film Festival.
