Myriad Pictures has acquired worldwide sales rights from Australia’s Gold Marquee Enterprises to action thriller Retreat and will launch sales at the AFM next week.

George Basha wrote, directed and stars alongside Maya Stange (Garage Days, Head On) and Troy Honeysett (The Combination: Redemption) in the story about a retired special ops soldier who must save his family from a team of trained killers when they stumble across mysterious packages while on holiday. John Tedesco and Basha served as producers.

Myriad Pictures CEO Kirk D’Amico said, “We are thrilled to be returning to AFM with an exciting line-up featuring George Basha’s Retreat. It is a gripping story about a father who will do anything to protect his family that also features Maya Stange and Troy Honeysett as formidable action co-stars.”

Basha added, “I love making strong character-driven films that that keep the audience guessing and on the edge of their seats. Retreat delivers plenty of action with a deep human element that all can relate to.”

The Australian filmmaker-actor was born in Sydney to Lebanese emigré parents and made his feature directorial debut with The Combination in 2009. His second feature, Convict, came out in 2014, and The Combination: Redemption opened theatrically across Australia in 2019 and was acquired by Netflix for Australia.

Stange’s roles include A Suburban Love Story, Killing Ground, Garage Days, XX/XY, and the US hit TV show Burn Notice. Honeysett made his American feature film debut in Universal Pictures’ Hard Target 2 and among his other roles are ABC Television’s Artscape documentary series – Artists at Work and The Making Of Collision Course.

Myriad’s current slate includes Walter Hill’s Dead For A Dollar starring Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe, and Rachel Brosnahan; Hello Stranger with Sam Worthington, Jordana Brewster, and Simu Liu; and Livia de Paolis’s The Lost Girls starring Joely Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave, and Iain Glen.
