Netflix will stream Kleber Mendonca Filho’s Oscar-nominated The Secret Agent as the Brazilian pay 1 partner in a debut expected later this year.
The streamer’s co-CEO Greg Peters shared the news at the opening of Netflix’s new and larger offices in São Paulo on Tuesday (January 27) to commemorate 15 years in the country.
Peters added that the company had contributed to production costs on the slow-burning thriller, which stars Wagner Moura and is in the running for four Academy Awards including best picture, international feature film, and lead actor for Wagner Moura.
“We support Brazilian films in multiple ways because we want to be the best partners and stay flexible so local producers can decide the best way to bring their projects to life,” Peters said. “That’s why we were so excited to partner with The Secret Agent’s producers to help fund the film and pre-license it for Netflix in Brazil.”
Netflix said it has also partnered with Filmes de Plástico on Vicentina, the new film from Gabriel Martins who directed Brazil’s 2023 Oscars submission Mars One; Barry Company and Biônica Filmes on Daniel Rezende’s The Son Of A Thousand Men, one of 15 films that was in contention to represent Brazil at the Oscars this season; Conspiração on Arthur Fontes’ 2025 comedy A Woman With No Filter; and LighHouse on Marcelo Antunez’s 2023 romance Zero To Hero.
The streamer said that in the last three years it has worked with more than 40 Brazilian production companies, generating more than 12,000 jobs through films and series that debuted in 2025. Global viewership of Netflix’s Brazilian titles increased by 60% between July and December 2025.
The 2026 offering includes the series Radioactive Emergency; Brasil 70, a limited series about the Brazilian team that won the FIFA Football World Cup in 1970; and series spin-off feature Sintonia: The Movie. Among new productions on the horizon is the feature adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s 1987 novel The Pilgrimage.
Netflix Brazil’s new office is the only one in Latin America to be fully occupied by the company.
