In The Valley Of Shadows

Production has wrapped in Colombia on Netflix’s H.G. Wells adaptation In The Valley Of Shadows starring Gael García Bernal and Natalia Reyes.

Sebastián Cordero, the Ecuadorean director of Cannes 2004 Un Certain Regard selection Cronicas, helmed the reinterpretation of Wells’s short story The Country Of The Blind from an adapted screenplay he co-wrote with María Camila Arias.

The story centres on Álvar, a mountaineer who falls into an isolated valley inhabited by a blind community. Álvar learns that his ability to see is considered a disturbance rather than an advantage and falls in love with Medina, the woman who cares for him. Before long, the mountaineer must decide whether to renounce who he is in order to stay, or flee the valley.

Claudio Cataño, Diego Vásquez, and Margarita Rosa de Francisco round out the key cast and Mirlanda Torres served as executive producer. Dynamo Productions provided production services and the shoot took place in Boyacá and Cundinamarca, including Santa Sofía, Suesca, the Tatacoita desert, and Choachí.

Netflix will give the film a limited theatrical run before it debuts on the service later this year.
