‘Son Of Soil’

EXCLUSIVE: Chee Keong Cheung’s Son Of The Soil will be released in UK-Ireland cinemas through Nile Entertainment in partnership with Cheung’s Sovereign Films on December 5.

The release will follow the film’s theatrical rollout in Nigeria on November 21, also through Nile Entertainment and the UK’s Sovereign Films, via Sovereign’s action label Action Xtreme.

Earlier this year, Nile Entertainment, the Nigerian distribution company launched in 2024 by Moses Babatope, signed a first-look deal with Action Xtreme to co-produce and distribute a slate of action films and series in Africa.

Directed by UK-Chinese filmmaker Cheung, and starring UK-Nigerian actor Razaaq Adoti, the feature follows a former Nigerian special ops paratrooper who has built a quiet life in exile after a mission gone wrong. Everything shifts when news of his sister’s sudden death drags him back to Nigeria.

The feature is also produced by Sovereign Films and Action Xtreme with Nigeria’s Boxonia Blueprint.

Nile Entertainment’s expansion into UK-Ireland distribution also includes James Omokwe’s Nigerian historical drama epic Osamede, released in UK-Ireland cinemas from November 28.

“We’re incredibly proud to bring this story from Nigeria to UK cinemas and share a world that is both culturally specific and universally human,” said Cheung. “I’m excited to be working with Moses Bapatope and his team at Nile Entertainment on this release and hopefully many more to follow.”

Son Of The Soil reflects the kind of bold, high-quality storytelling that is pushing Nollywood into a new era,” added Babatope.
