EXCLUSIVE: Film Movement has acquired North American distribution rights to Brazilian director Luiza Shelling Tubaldini’s romantic thriller Love Kills, about vampires chasing vampires, from Reel Suspects.
The Paris-based sales outfit has also sold the film to Busch Media for a theatrical release at the end of the year in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Further deals include Italy (Blueswan), South Korea (With Lion) and India (Jai Viratra).
Love Kills is set in Sao Paolo’s crack-ravaged downtown neighbourhood and centres on a young vampire haunting a dirty café where a naïve waiter uncovers her secrets and gets swept into the city’s underbelly and perilous world of immortal intrigue.
Shelling Tubaldini described her debut feature as “a drama about outcast women and sexual abuse, with a thriller element in a vampire universe.”
The film had its world premiere at last year’s Sitges Film Festival and is playing at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) this month. It will be released in Brazilian cinemas on April 21 by O2 Play.
Reel Suspects’ lineup also includes Zoe Berriatúa’s dark drama Buffet Libre, e-sports drama Gamer Girls by Veronica Bassetto and Sophie Yang, horror title Bodyhackers and erotic drama Interior Apartment Day.
