Bafta has unveiled the round two longlist for its 2026 film awards, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s thriller One Battle After Another leading the charge with 16 spots on the list.
Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners are close behind, with 14 apiece.
Both One Battle After Another and Sinners are released by Warner Bros, and Hamnet is a Universal Pictures release.
Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme, released in UK-Ireland by Entertainment Film Distributors, has 13 nods, while Venice premieres Bugonia, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and released by Universal, and Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix horror Frankenstein are next with 12.
Joachim Trier’s Cannes Competition title Sentimental Value, released by Mubi, has the most spots among European films, with eight.
Jon M Chu’s Wicked: For Good sequel for Universal also has eight.
Of the locally-produced and directed titles, Kirk Jones’ I Swear, released by Studiocanal, and Harry Lighton’s directorial debut Pillion, both have six mentions. The latter has been released by Picturehouse and Warner Bros in UK-Ireland.
James Vanderbilt’s post- World War Two psychological thriller Nuremberg, has also secured six spots on the longlists. Sky has UK-Ireland rights.
In total, 82 films have been longlisted, broadly in line with last year’s 80, across 25 categories.
Round two voting opens today (January 9) and will close on January 20.
The nominations will be announced on January 27, after the Oscar nominations for the first time since 2001, and the ceremony will take place on February 22, a week later than it was in 2025, with Bafta using those extra days to give more time to voters. Alan Cumming will host the ceremony.
