One Battle After Another, Hamnet

Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) and Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) have announced their nominations featuring Warner Bros trio One Battle After Another, Sinners and Weapons, and Hamnet, Bugonia, and Black Bag from Focus Features.

A24 and Netflix landed two nods apiece in the feature original and adapted screenplay categories for Marty Supreme and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, and Frankenstein and Train Dreams, respectively.

While all of the adapted screenplay nominees also received Oscar nods, there is considerable discrepancy in the original category, where the Guild’s strict rules prevented the likes of Oscar nominees Sentimental Value, It Was Just An Accident and Blue Moon from competing.

Oscar-nominated Sinners and Marty Supreme are in the running alongside Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag, Zach Cregger’s Weapons and Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

The documentary nominees are 2,000 Meters To Andriivka, Becoming Led Zeppelin, and White With Fear – none of which is nominated for the Oscar.

The 78th Annual Writers Guild Awards take place on March 8 at concurrent ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York and will be live-streamed on WGAW’s YouTube channel.
