‘Parasite’

Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar best picture-winning Parasite has broken the record for highest-grossing non-English language film of all time in the UK.

It grossed £528,864 on its fifth weekend, taking it to £11.5m in total – past the £11.1m of Mel Gibson’s The Passion Of The Christ from 2004.

The film is released in the UK through Curzon Artificial Eye in partnership with Studiocanal.

Its fall of 49.2% on its previous session was its biggest to date; however, it is still to fall more than 50% on any weekend.

It is the sixth highest-grossing 2020 release so far in the UK, behind 1917, Bad Boys For Life, Sonic The Hedgehog, Dolittle and The Gentlemen.

Bong’s film won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2019 and led the 2020 Academy Awards winners, with four prizes including best picture and best director.
