EXCLUSIVE: Premiere Entertainment Group (PEG) is preparing for an October 6 production start in Guatemala on the folklore horror Chupacabras and has closed North America and a couple of key territories in Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
ITN will distribute in North America, Minerva in Italy, and Great Movies has acquired rights for Latin America on Ricardo B’atz’s feature directorial starring Natalie Burn from Till Death and Acceleration.
The story draws on myth of the Chupacabra and centres on a quiet roadside restaurant that each year becomes the setting for an epic struggle for survival against a supernatural threat. Alejandro Alfaro wrote the screenplay.
PEG president and CEO Elias Axume is producing and Stuart Alson and Nicolle Holland serve as executive producers. PEG represents worldwide sales.
The Los Angeles-based company recently wrapped production on the Salvadorian Civil War epic Fireflies At El Mozote, which it produces with Bob Yari and stars Paz Vega, and licensed the small-town action thriller Desert Dawn to Saban.
Among PEG’s slate of genre films are TIFF sales title and noir thriller The Hook starring Michael Jai White and Malin Akerman, Pinocchio Unstrung, and Bambi: The Reckoning.
