The actor was taken to hospital in Oxford on Thursday (June 12) after hurting his ankle, Disney confirmed.
Ford and the cast were shooting the new instalment for director J J Abrams when an incident occurred at Pinewood in Buckinghamshire.
According to Thames Valley Police, a report of an injury involving a 71-year-old man and a garage door came in during the late afternoon.
In a statement the studio said, “Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII.
“He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates.”
Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to open through Disney on December 18, 2015.
