Britain’s Daniel Pemberton has won film composer of the year at the 26th World Soundtrack Awards (WSA), which took place tonight (October 10), at the closing night of Film Fest Gent in Belgium.

Pemberton, who also won the award in 2021, was honoured for his scores for Project Hail Mary, The Drama, The Bad Guys 2 and Masters Of The Universe.

Northern Irish composer Hannah Peel picked up the discovery of the year award for her score for Polly Findlay’s Midwinter Break, starring Lesley Manville and Ciarán Hinds.

After being nominated twice previously, Jeff Russo won the television composer of the year award for work on Cape Fear, Alien: Earth, and second season of Citadel.

Best original song went to singer-songwriter Kim Eun-jae and composer Mark Sonnenblick for pop culture sensation ‘Golden’ from KPop Demon Hunters. It previously won the equivalent prizes at the Oscars and Golden Globes.

The public choice award was won by Kevin Smithers for his Soy Frankelda soundtrack.

The WSA lifetime achievement award was presented to The Last Of The Mohicans and Notting Hill composer Trevor Jones.
