EXCLUSIVE: France’s Pyramide International is launching sales on Pascal Bonitzer’s Maigret And The Dead Lover starring Denis Podalydes as the renowned French police inspector.
The film, now in post, marks a new direction for the well-known IP after disgraced actor Gerard Depardieu notably starred as the same character in Patrice Leconte’s 2022 film Maigret.
The character is based on is based on Georges Simenon’s series of 75 best-selling Belgian books about a Parisian detective solving crimes.
Maigret And The Dead Lover is produced by SBS Productions and is about the death of a former ambassador whose long romance with a princess leads to a suspense-filled investigation. The cast also includes Anne Alvaro, Micha Lescot, Dominique Reymond, Arcady Radeff, Laurent Poitreneaux and Olivier Rabourdin.
Pyramide has also boarded Sebastien Lifshitz’s art doc My Name Is Sophie Calle And I’m Still Alive about one of France’s most acclaimed contemporary artists. It follows the famed French artist for several months capturing her daily life and her work, and retracing her journey from the 1970s to today. It is produced by France’s Ex Nihilo.
Lifshitz’s films have won a slew of festival prizes including the Queer Palm in Cannes for The Lives OF Therese, Teddy awards in Berlin for Bambi and Wild Side and a Cesar for best documentary for The Invisibles. His Little Girl screened at Berlin in Panorama in 2020.
Pyramide is at Cannes with a robust slate that includes festival selections Hubert Charuel’s friendship drama Meteors starring Paul Kircher in Un Certain Regard and Sang-il Lee’s Japanese Kabuki-centred Kokuho in Directors’ Fortnight.
