‘Un Peu Avant Minuit’

EXCLUSIVE: France’s Pyramide is kicking off sales for Nicolas Pariser’s latest feature Un Peu Avant Minuit starring Melvil Poupaud as a man taking stock of his life after his father dies.

The film – that translates to “just before midnight” in English – follows its 49 year-old protagonist who is on the verge of separating from his partner and about to leave for Italy to deal with the inheritance of his late biological father.

He then starts to question his very existence and relationships with women amidst conversations with his daughter and ghosts from his past. The starry cast also includes Chiara Mastroianni, Anais Demoustier, Golshifteh Farahani and Léonie Simaga.

It is Pariser’s fourth feature after two Directors’ Fortnight films - The Green Perfume in 2022 and Alice And The Mayor in 2019 – and 2015’s The Great Game that premiered in Locarno and earned France’s Louis Delluc prize that same year.

The director - who also penned the screenplay - reteams with longtime producer Bizibi which produces alongside Dimanche Soir. The film shot this autumn in Paris and Ferrara, Italy. Pyramide will release the film in France next year.

Eric Lagesse CEO of Pyramide cited the film’s “remarkable script, light and profound at the same time, and deeply contemporary.” He added: “Pariser brings MeToo back to the heart of his work, but this time through the eyes of a man in his fifties revisiting the film of his own youth. I’m personally thrilled to see men getting involved in such an essential societal issue.”

Bizibi’s Emmanuel Agneray, who produced Pariser’s The Great Game, Alice and the Mayor, and The Green Perfume, added: “Nicolas reinvents himself with each project, and I am particularly proud to support him on a project that tackles such a contemporary and important subject. I am also delighted to have entrusted the international sales and French distribution of the film to Pyramide.”
