EXCLUSIVE: Mimi Steinbauer’s Radiant Films International has begun talks with international buyers at AFM on the upcoming romantic comedy The Token Groomsman to star Taylor Lautner from The Twilight franchise and Sarah Hyland.
Andie MacDowell, Brenton Thwaites and country music singer Kane Brown will also star in the story about Scott (Lautner), who gets invited to an all-inclusive destination wedding in Italy to celebrate with a couple he doesn’t remember meeting.
Scott joins the wedding party in the hopes of finding a financial investor for his new video game, but his networking agenda is derailed when he falls for the groom’s sister. Natalie Simpkins makes her feature directorial debut and co-wrote the screenplay with John C. Hall and Sohale Andrus Mortazavi.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Retinue Media attached to co-produce. Attend Theatrical Marketplace is targeting a US release on more than 2,000 screens.
“The Token Groomsman provides a fresh take on a classic genre – the wedding rom-com, from the male point-of-view,” said Radiant’s head of sales Karis Aldridge. “We know audiences will have a raucous time with this ensemble comedy, it’s reminiscent of classics Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Wedding Crashers.”
