Raven Banner has swooped on Canadian rights to Gaspar Noe’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight selection Climax starring Sofia Boutella.

The film premiered on the Croisette on May 13 and prompted an overnight US deal between A24 and sales agent Wild Bunch. Raven Banner plans a theatrical release later this year alongside that of A24.

Climax stars Boutella, the rising star from 2017 releases Atomic Blonde and The Mummy, in the story of a touring dance troupe who tumble into a paranoid state after a shared drink is spiked.

Climax is an exhilarating descent into hell,” Raven Banner managing partner Michael Paszt said. “We look forward to taking Canadian audiences down the rabbit hole.”

Raven Banner’s Paszt and Annick Mahnert negotiated the deal with Fanny Beauville of Wild Bunch.

Edouard Weil, Vincent Maraval, Richard Grandpierre and Michel Merkt served as producers, and Les Cinémas de la Zone, Artémis Productions and VICE Studios co-produced. Danny Gabai and Eddy Moretti served as executive producers for VICE Studios, which co-financed.

Raven Banner recently closed a financing deal with the US-based De Angeles Films to boost its presence in the Canadian market, as well as its production, worldwide acquisitions and sales slate.

Previous releases include It Came From The Desert, Andre Ovredal’s The Autopsy Of Jane Doe, Turbo Kid, and Ryan Prow’s Lowlife.
