Regina Hall and rapper Ice Spice are among the new voice cast for Paramount’s The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, which the studio teased today in Annecy.
Hall and Spice (real name Isis Gaston) will be joined by Sherry Cola, Arturo Castro and George Lopez in the film.
Director Derek Drymon introduced an exclusive look at the film’s first act as part of Paramount’s Annecy presentation, as well as detailing the creative approach behind the film.
The fourth feature film on Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob character, SquarePants is scheduled to be released theatrically on December 19, 2025. Mark Hamill is among the previously announced voice cast, alongside regular contributors from the TV show.
SquarePants will follow the eponymous anthropomorphic sponge to the deepest depths of the ocean, where he faces off against pirate ghost the Flying Dutchman.
The Paramount showcase also included a first look at the opening 20 minutes of Chris Miller’s Smurfs, which the studio is releasing on July 18, 2025, with Rihanna, James Corden, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel and Hannah Waddingham among a stacked voice cast.
Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, gave opening remarks to the session, introducing a slate that includes PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2.
Miller and Drymon also participated in an on-stage discussion, moderated by Emily Nordwind, senior vice president of Paramount Animation.
