EXCLUSIVE: Evolution Pictures has acquired international sales rights on Jeremy Garelick’s US comedy Rolling Loud.
Evolution will launch sales on the film at this week’s European Film Market (EFM, February 12-18), having acquired rights from producers Live Nation Studios.
Rolling Loud stars Owen Wilson and Matt Rife, in the story of an overprotective father who attempts to bond with his 13-year-old son by sneaking him into Miami’s Rolling Loud hip-hop festival.
Hip-hop stars Ty Dolla $ign, Sexyy Red and Ski Mask The Slump God appear in the film, with further cast including Henry Winkler, Christian Convery, and Christine Ko.
Live Nation Studios is the film and TV arm of leading live entertainment company Live Nation Entertainment.
Ketchup Entertainment holds North American rights on Rolling Loud and will release in the US and Canada on September 18 this year, in over 2,000 cinemas.
“Rolling Loud sits squarely in the space we’re focused on as a company — highly commercial, culture-forward films with genuine theatrical scale and global reach,” said Fred Hedman, CEO at UK-based sales and production firm Evolution Pictures. “The combination of Owen Wilson’s mainstream appeal, and major hip-hop artists cultural footprint and the unprecedented access to the Rolling Loud festival makes this a standout title for international distributors.”
“With Rolling Loud, Live Nation Studios brings that live-music pulse off the stage and on to the big screen,” said Live Nation Studios head of film & TV Ryan Kroft. “This bold, unapologetic comedy with real cultural credibility is a true event-driven theatrical release that connects music culture and cinema.”
US filmmaker Garelick has previously directed features including 2015 comedy The Wedding Ringer starring Kevin Hart, Josh Gad and Kaley Cuoco; and 2023 Netflix title Murder Myster 2 with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston.
