‘Fjord’

Romanian National Film Centre (CNC) has selected Cristian Mungiu’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner Fjord as its official Oscar submission.

Mungiu’s English-language feature debut also won the Fipresci Prize, Ecumenical Jury Prize, Prix de la Citoyenneté, and François Chalais Prize on the Croisette.

Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve play a Romanian father and Norwegian mother who relocate with their children to a remote Norwegian village and come under scrutiny after they are suspected of disturbing behaviour.

Neon acquired North American, UK and Australia & New Zealand rights and will open the film in North America on October 9. The film will play Telluride (September 4-7) this weekend and receives its Canadian premiere in Toronto on September 10 before screening at London Film Festival.

The Romania-France-Norway-Sweden-Denmark- Finland co-production is produced by Mobra Films in co-production with Why Not Productions, Eye Eye Pictures, Film i Väst, Filmgate Films, Garagefilm International, Snowglobe, Aamu Film Company, and France 3 Cinéma.

Fjord was made with the support of Romanian National Film Centre and backed by Eurimages and Creative Europe MEDIA Programme. It opened in France on August 19 and is scheduled to open in Romania during winter. Goodfellas is the international sales agent.
