The Donmar Warehouse artistic director Josie Rourke directs from a screenplay by Beau Willimon based on Queen Of Scots: The True Life Of Mary Stuart by John Guy.

The story explores the turbulent life of Mary Stuart, who became queen of France at 16 and was widowed at 18 before she returned to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne where the reigning monarch is Elizabeth I.

Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty as the two courts become mired in intrigue.

Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing with Debra Hayward.
