Srdan Vuletic’s Otter and Vladimir Tagic’s Yugo Florida are among the five feature world premieres screening as part of the competition programme of the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival (August 15-22, 2025
Serbian filmmaker Tagic’s debut feature Yugo Florida follows a man whose seemingly pointless life is turned upside-down when his estranged father is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Backed by the film centres of Serbia, Croatia and Bulgaria, the film is produced by Marija Stojanovic for Serbia’s Sense Production.
After a 17-year break from directing features, Otter is Bosnian filmmaker Vuletic’s second feature in successive years, after last year’s Gym. Otter follows a 16-year-old girl who takes a trip with the boy she loves to film a solar eclipse; only to realise he is not who she thought. Ivan Djurovic produces for Montenegro’s Artikulacija.

The powerhouse feature film competition jury includes filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa and Berlinale director Tricia Tuttle. It will present awards including the €16,000 Heart of Sarajevo for best feature film.
The programme team said they had received 1,036 submissions, of which 195 were fiction features.
“The backbone of this year’s competition programs are films that, transcending national boundaries, remain true to the universal stories that shape our lives,” said the festival’s creative director Izeta Gradevic. “In this range – from topics that deal with today to those that question the past – this selection opens up space to remember, through film stories, what we all have in common: the need for meaning, for closeness, for understanding - ourselves and others.”
