Vuelta-owned Nordic distributor Scanbox Entertainment has acquired Swedish film and TV producer DramanationNordic and will relaunch it as Scanbox Dramanation.

The company will be headed by DramanationNordic founders Patrick Nebout and Henrik Jansson-Schweizer whose credits include Oscar nominated feature The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window And Disappeared as well as SVT-Disney+ series Whiskey on the Rocks, and Canal+-SVT thriller Midnight Sun.

The move sees Scanbox expand its production footprint beyond Denmark and Iceland.

Scanbox Dramanation also becomes the first Swedish scripted label within Vuelta, whose network of distribution, production and international sales companies spans ten European markets, including France, Italy, Germany and Belgium alongside the Nordics.

Scanbox Dramanation will focus on premium scripted series and feature films, in particular European co-productions.

Projects in development include heist thriller Made in Sweden (working title), based on the true story of when Sweden tried to sell 1,000 Volvo cars to North Korea in the 1970s.

Scanbox releases around 20 titles a year across Denmark, Norway and Sweden, including upcoming Swedish titles Adult Supervision by Alex Schulman and Two People Who Fall In Love by Daniel Sawka.

Scanbox will still look to acquire third party Swedish productions for distribution, on top of Scanbox Dramanation titles.

Thor Sigurjonsson, CEO of Scanbox Entertainment, said: “Patrick and Henrik have built a company with a clear creative identity and a strong commitment to storytelling that resonates beyond borders but with a clear nordic DNA. This acquisition strengthens our ability to support ambitious European talent and deliver distinctive content to audiences across all our markets in both Film & Television.”

Nebout said: ”Very few companies in Europe are built the way Vuelta is — entirely focused on distinctive and premium storytelling, with distribution and production genuinely part of the same, agile organism. Scanbox’s Thor and Torben, like Jérôme and David at Vuelta, are deeply protective of the indie producer boutique spirit — it’s part of the DNA: it’s there in how they think, how they look at IP, how they’re building the business. That’s the environment where Henrik and I do our best work. It also means we can stress-test a project against granular market intelligence from day one. And the pan-European reach of the group opens up something I’ve wanted to pursue at real scale for a long time: the North–South co-production corridor. Midnight Sun was the first-ever French–Swedish television co-production. Scanbox Dramanation is built, in part, to make that kind of ambition systematic.”

Jansson-Schweizer said: “We’re incredibly excited to join forces with Scanbox and Vuelta as we embark on this next chapter , united by a shared entrepreneurial spirit. I can’t wait to contribute to Scanbox and Vuelta’s ambitious house. Together, we aim to bring outstanding and authentic stories to life. Our ambition is to develop Film and TV drama that resonate with audiences around the world — stories that entertain, inspire, and leave a lasting impact.”
