Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, Hlynur Palmason’s The Love That Remains and Jeanette Nordahl’s Beginnings are among the six films nominated for the 2026 Nordic Council Film Prize.
The three are nominated alongside Bui Dam’s documentary Birita, Lauri-Matti Parppei’s A Light That Never Goes Out, and Maria Eriksson-Hecht’s Kevlar Soul.

The six titles will be celebrated at a nomination ceremony tomorrow (Tuesday, August 25) at the Norwegian International Film Festival Haugesund, where the nominated filmmakers will meet each other and introduce their films to the festival audience.
The Film Prize jury consists of Denmark’s Jacob Ludvigsen, the Faroe Islands’ Jan Berg Jorgensen, Finland’s Marjo Pipinen, Iceland’s Jona Finnsdottir, Norway’s Anne Gjelsvik, and Sweden’s Jonas Holmberg – one representative from each of the six Nordic territories. Greenland did not submit a film for the 2026 edition.
The award comes with a DKK 300,000 ($47,000) prize, the winner of which will be announced on October 20, alongside winners of the other Nordic Council cultural prizes including in music and literature.
The prize is shared equally among the writer(s), director and producer(s) of the winning film, with 21 individuals across the six nominated titles.
The Nordic Council Film Prize was established in 2002 and has been awarded annually since 2005, to a Nordic-produced feature film with theatrical distribution.
Last year’s prize went to Sakaris Stora’s The Last Paradise On Earth, the first Faroese submission to and winner of the award.
