EXCLUSIVE: SND will launch sales at the EFM for French actor-director Clovis Cornillac’s family adventure feature Fairy Tales: The Origins (Il Etait Une Fois), based on the life of 17th-century author Charles Perrault, famed for being the founding father of the fairy tale genre.

A Little Something Extra director-actor Artus stars as Perrault alongside Cornillac, Alban Lenoir, Marine Vacth, and Kim Higelin.

The film is set in Versailles in 1680 where once acclaimed poet Perrault is lacking inspiration, so when King Louis XIV assigns him a clandestine mission, he partners with a charismatic and eccentric knight on a dangerous quest to save the kingdom. Along the way, he travels to faraway places, faces powerful enemies, and meets fascinating characters that inspire him to create what will become timeless tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Puss In Boots, Sleeping Beauty, and Bluebeard.

France’s Radar Films and SND produced the film that is now in post-production and SND will release in France later this year.

It is written by Eric Besnard and Frank Vestiel.

Cornillac is one of France’s leading actors who has also directed several features including Belle And Sebastien 3: Friends For Life, C’est Magnifique!, Blind Date and The Colors of Fire.

Cornillac and Artus co-starred in A Little Something Extra as father and son.
