Sony Pictures Classics will release the subtitled version of Mamoru Hosoda’s anime adventure Scarlet exclusively on Imax on February 6, 2026, prior to expanding across North America one week later with subtitled and dubbed versions.
The time-travelling feature about a medieval-era, sword-wielding princess on a quest to avenge the death of her father will get a one-week qualifying run on Imax screens in 10 cities on December 12.
Scarlet received its world premiere at Venice International Film Festival and went on to screen at Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival.
Yuichiro Saito produced through Studio Chizu alongside Toshimi Tanio for Nippon TV and Nozomu Takahashi for Studio Chizu. Sony Pictures co-produced and co-financed the feature with Studio Chizu and Nippon TV.
Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute Scarlet worldwide excluding North America, and Japan, where Toho will distribute theatrically.
