Mascha Schilinski’s Cannes 2025 world premiere Sound Of Falling has received 11 nominations for this year’s German Film Awards (aka Lolas), including for best feature film, director, screenplay, supporting actress and cinematography.
İlker Çatak’s 2026 Golden Bear-winning Yellow Letters has picked up nine nominations, including for best feature, director, screenplay, lead actor and actress.
Kirill Serebrennikov’s The Disappearance Of Josef Mengele has received seven nominations, including for best feature, lead actor and sound design.
The three further films in the running to win best film are Fatih Akin’s coming of age drama Amrum, Simon Verhoeven’s bestseller adaptation Ach Diese Lücke, Diese Entsetzliche Lücke and Mia Maariel Meyer’s drama 22 Bahnen.
Daniel Abma’s The Family Approach, Sabine Lidl’s Siri Hustedt - Dance Around The Self, and Julian Vogel and Johannes Bütner’s Soldaten Des Lichts are three films in the running for best documentary, while Norbert Lechner’s The Secret Floor has been nominated with Julia Lemke and Anna Koch’s documentary Circusboy in the best children’s film category.
Announcing the nominations during ARD’s Mittagsmagazin lunchtime programme, the Film Academy’s president Florian Gallenberger also revealed that Wim Wenders will receive this year’s Honorary Lola for his services to German cinema.
In addition, Michael Herbig’s comedy Das Kanu Des Manitu, which has been seen by over five million cinemagoers in Germany since its release last August, will be presented with the Lola for the most successful German film at the local box office during 2025.
The 2,500-strong membership of the German Film Academy will now vote for the winners ahead of the awards ceremony in Berlin at the Palais am Funkturm on May 29.
