EXCLUSIVE: Spanish production and sales outfit Sideral has boarded buzzy title Serenade, now in pre-production. It will be the feature debut of Pedro Díaz, a Screen Director to Watch 2025.

Written and directed by Díaz, the late-1990s-set drama will star María Vázquez and Bruna Cusí.

Set in a rural Galician valley, Serenade is about an atheist single mother trying to grant her dying mother one last wish: to see her granddaughter make her First Communion. But the plan stirs deep emotional and moral tensions, as 12-year-old Lola has not entered a church since her baptism.

Serenade is produced by Salon Indien Films, and Mandrágora Cinema. Shooting is scheduled for May and June in Galicia.

Sideral’s EFM slate also includes Miguel del Arco’sThe Sentence, starring Diego Botto, Fran Cantos and MartaEtura, now in post-production.

The Sentence is one of the company’s first titles under its repositioning as a producer-distributor.
