Spike Lee

Focus Features said on Monday (April 9) that Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman will open in the US on August 10.

The release date is timely given that it falls two days before the first anniversary of the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, when a rally by white supremacist groups resulted in the death of three people.

BlacKkKlansman is produced by the team behind 2017 breakout smash Get Out and the story is inspired by the life of Ron Stallworth, an African American police officer from Colorado Springs who went undercover in the Ku Klux Klan.

John David Washington and Adam Driver play detectives who infiltrate the organisation in an effort to thwart its efforts to take over the city. Laura Harrier and Topher Grace also star.

Sean McKittrick and Raymond Mansfield produce for QC Entertainment alongside Jason Blum for Blumhouse, Jordan Peele for Monkeypaw, Lee, and Shaun Redick.

QC’s Edward H. Hamm Jr. will serve as executive producer.
