‘The Great Arch’

EXCLUSIVE: Stéphane Demoustier’s historical drama The Great Arch, starring Claes Bang, Sidse Babett Knudsen and Xavier Dolan, about the architect tasked with designing the titular structure at La Défense, west of Paris, has sold widely for Le Pacte since it was launched at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in May. 

Le Pacte has sold the film across Europe to Benelux (Cherry Pickers), Italy (Movies Inspired), Spain (Lazona Pictures), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Greece (One From the Heart), the Nordics outside of Denmark (Njutafilm), Iceland (BioParadis), Poland (Kinoteka), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Cinemart), the Baltics (Best Film), Eastern Europe (HBO Europe), Ex-Yugoslavia (MCF), Hungary (Mozinet), Ukraine (Svoe Kino) and Bulgaria (Beta Film).

It has also found distributors in Japan (Mimosa Films), Canada (TVA Films), Australia/New Zealand (Palace Films), Latin America (CDI Filmes), Brazil (Imovision), Israel (Lev Cinemas), Indonesia (PT Falcon), Turkey (Filmarti) and Airlines (Spafax/Penny Black).

Cohen Media Group just snapped up the film for US distribution.

The film is based on the true story of Danish architect Otto von Spreckelsen and follows him from first being thrust into the spotlight after winning an international competition in the 1980s to design the project, then colliding with French bureaucratic obstacles along the way to construction.

The producers are Muriel Meynard at Agat Films - Ex Nihilo, with co-producers Denmark’s Zentropa, France 3 Cinema and Le Pacte, which will release the film in France on November 5. 

The Great Arch had its US premiere at AFI Fest on October 26. It will next open Geneva International Film Festival on October  31.
