Santa Monica-based Storyboard Media has finalised a US deal with Well Go USA on this year’s German found footage box office hit Heilstatten.
The distributor plans a first quarter 2019 release on the film from Berlin-based genre production outfit Schmerbeck Entertainment and co-producer 20th Century Fox. It grossed around $1.2m – a solid amount for a genre that is fast-rising in Germany.
Heilstatten follows a group of YouTubers who break into an abandoned asylum as part of a 24-hour challenge. Equipped with night vision and thermal cameras, the adrenaline junkies plan to shoot a viral video on the premises, which are rumoured to contain paranormal entities.
“We are thrilled to close this new deal with Storyboard Media,” said Well Go USA executive vice-president Tony Vandeveerdonk. “Heilstatten is an exciting new horror film in the found footage genre and we look forward to bringing it to North American audiences next year.”
